Texture Matching: Orange Peel, Knockdown and Smooth

Every patch gets its texture matched to the wall around it — orange peel, knockdown or smooth at the standard tier, included in every repair. Hand-applied finishes like skip trowel, brushed or swirl, and walls in direct sunlight or raking light, take more care and carry a detailed or premium add-on, because texture reads differently in strong light than in a typical room.

Standard, detailed and premium texture

Most rooms, closets, garages and basements use one of three standard textures — orange peel, knockdown or smooth — and matching any of them is included in every repair. Main living areas and hallways, and hand-applied finishes like skip trowel, brushed or swirl, are priced at the detailed tier. High-end finishes and walls in direct sunlight are priced at the premium tier. See the full breakdown on the price list.

Every quote is firm from 2-3 photos and the year your home was built — send both through the quote page.

Why light and sun make a match harder

Texture reads differently depending on how light hits it. A wall in direct sun, or a hallway lit from one side, shows every ridge and dip of a spray texture in a way a shaded closet wall doesn't. The same orange peel pattern that looks consistent in normal light can read differently at a glancing angle, which is part of why walls in direct sunlight are priced at the premium tier — not because the work takes longer, but because it takes more care to get the pattern right under harder light.

We match your texture closely. We don't treat that as a reason to promise a result we can't control once the light changes.

Hand textures

Skip trowel, brushed and swirl finishes are applied by hand rather than sprayed, which is why they're priced at the detailed tier along with main living areas and hallways. Getting the pattern, spacing and depth right takes more time per patch than a sprayed orange peel or knockdown finish.

If the repair itself — not just the texture — is the bigger question, see drywall hole repair for sizes and pricing.

Texture match and painting

A texture match is the standard finish for every repair; what you do with it after is up to you. If you want the wall painted too, we recommend a full wall repaint, corner to corner, not a spot touch-up — texture and sheen both show at the edge of a touch-up. That's a separate return visit, once the texture has had time to dry; see drywall repair and painting for how it works and what it costs.

What to expect on repair day

Mario, the owner, does the work, and your home is protected while it happens.

You don't need to be home

Leave a lockbox code or the door unlocked. You get a text when Mario is on the way, and Mario locks up when the job is done.

Your belongings protected

Before starting, we tape plastic over the floor, nearby walls and anything close to the repair. If a couch is in the way, we move it and cover it.

Cleaned up before we leave

Patching makes some dust. The plastic catches most of it, and we clean up the work area before we go.

Texture matching questions

Can you match orange peel or knockdown texture?

Yes — both are standard textures, included in every repair.

What counts as a detailed texture?

Main living areas and hallways, and hand-applied finishes like skip trowel, brushed, or swirl.

Why does direct sunlight cost more to texture match?

Texture reads differently under strong, raking light than it does in a typical room, so it takes more care to get the pattern right — that's priced at the premium tier.

How closely will the texture match?

We match your existing texture carefully — orange peel, knockdown, smooth, or a hand-applied finish. How it reads in different light is something no texture match fully controls.

Does texture matching cost extra on every job?

No — standard orange peel, knockdown, or smooth is included. Detailed and premium tiers are the only ones priced separately; see the price list.
